Global Affinity Group Chair Role Description

The Global Affinity Group Chair serves as the strategic leader for the affinity group at the global level, driving vision, direction, and member value across the organization. This role acts as a key resource and connector for HBA regions and chapters, ensuring alignment between affinity group initiatives and broader organizational priorities. The Chair reports directly to the Deputy Chair of the Global Affinity Group Committee and partners closely with HBA staff to support execution and engagement efforts.

As the primary thought leader for the affinity group, the Global Affinity Group Chair maintains both an external and strategic focus—identifying emerging trends, fostering relationships, and aligning group priorities with HBA’s mission and strategic objectives. This leader collaborates across stakeholder groups to shape the direction of the affinity group and builds and leads a strong global and virtual volunteer team to successfully execute strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the annual strategic plan for the affinity group, informed by input from the leadership team and regional liaisons
  • Establish annual goals and priorities that align with organizational strategy and member needs
  • Lead and facilitate monthly affinity group leadership meetings
  • Foster collaboration and communication across global, regional, and chapter stakeholders
  • Promote the affinity group and support initiatives that increase member engagement and visibility
  • Curate relevant thought leadership content and represent the affinity group through speaking engagements and industry conversations
  • Support the development of meaningful member value offerings and engagement opportunities
  • Serve as a mentor, connector, and strategic resource for their focus area throughout the HBA 

Time Commitment

Approximately 5–10 hours per month.
